WORKING WITH LISA

Theoretical ORientation

TReatment modalities, a few examples:

Theoretical ORientation

  • My practice is relational, meaning that I believe that healing happens within the context of the relationship with therapist and client, and is not limited to homework, or coping skills that you practice on your own.
  • Anti-oppressive therapy acknowledges the impact of oppression on your suffering. Most healing can't happen without this understanding to challenge our tendency towards self-blame.
  • Somatic approaches to therapy rely on the idea of the mind-body connection, and welcome the body into therapy, viewing it as a resource rather than enemy.
  • I approach psychodynamic therapy by assisting you in gaining understanding of how your childhood or other events may have impacted current behavioral patterns.
  •  Taking an eclectic approach to psychotherapy means that I pull from various treatment modalities in collaboratively determining what might work best for you. I'm well-versed in evidenced-based care, and curious about ways of healing that we may not have even discovered.

My values

TReatment modalities, a few examples:

Theoretical ORientation

  • Authenticity: as a neurodivergent clinician, you'll find me to be both honest and caring.
  • Emotional safety is necessary component of healing, and needs to be established in the therapeutic alliance.
  • Social justice and anti-oppressive treatment are cornerstones to my practice.
  • Anti-carceral care matters.  I will not issue ultimatums, and be mindful in level of care recommendations with the knowledge that the wrong treatment can be traumatizing.
  • Harm reduction (when applicable). I will not discharge you from services for being sick and distrustful of more intensive eating disorder care.
  • Creativity: therapy should be individualized, not solely manualized.
  • Humility: I am not afraid to be wrong, and welcome feedback.
  • Client choice is necessary for our productivity. Care is collaborative.
  • Humor: I have the ability to laugh at myself, and firmly believe that laughter can be healing.

Treatment modalities are not limited to the following, and will be individualized to you based on your preference, and the content of our sessions.

  • Inference-Based CBT for OCD treatment challenges the doubts that intrusive thoughts originate from. This modality helps you to trust yourself again.
  • FBT/Family Based Treatment for eating disorders: I often use this approach with chosen family with adults as well as adolescents. This involves, to state it briefly, bringing your family in to challenge your ED alongside you by supporting your re-nourishment
  • CBT-AR: staged treatment for ARFID characterized by autonomy and choice
  • DBT: an approach that focuses on embracing nuance and grey areas via focus on emotion regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance & interpersonal effectiveness
  • Mindful self-compassion
  • CBT to challenge negative internalized views about the self and more.
  • Motivational interviewing: a lot of folks are ambivalent about making changes. I'm a provider that will be patient and supportive in any steps you take towards being your best self, no matter how small
