Kintsugi is the Japanese art of restoring broken items with gold, and an apt analogy for post-traumatic growth. In healing from trauma, you will have the chance to create new meaning with the goal of integrating traumatic memories so that they are only a part of your story. What we become in the process of healing from terrible things is beautiful in its own way, even though what happened to you never should have. I believe that healing happens within the context of human connection and that you get to choose what comes next, at your own pace. I take a creative approach to treating trauma, and collaborate with clients to identify how they prefer to approach their healing. We might take a somatic approach, as theories suggest that trauma resides in the body, work on self-compassion, or set up play dates for you and your inner child. The therapeutic relationship in and of itself, guided by client choice, offers great potential for healing.
